Well, I originally posted this as a comment in someone else's post...but I ended up making it soooo long, that it became completely IRRELEVANT to what they were talking about. So, I have no choice but to post it. I say, why not? I haven't posted here in awhile. So here goes:

I like this community, but I know what you're talking about. I read in the info (just recently, haven't been here in quite some time) something about, "this is an 'anti' community"..."rich kids trying to rebel and be punk..." and that's as far as I got. And I just felt to argue that little point. Rich kids have just as much a right to "rebel" as everyone else, you can't take that away from them.

Anything like "Punk" or "Goth" or "Alternative" or whatever label you put on the lifestyle should be more accepting, and less excluding. People start to think that other people "aren't good enough" to be punk, or whatever, I don't care what words you use. When you exclude them, they "aren't punk enough" for you. AND THAT'S WHY PUNK IS DEAD, as everyone seems to claim.

Punk MUSIC, is alive and well. And sure, the punk lifestyle is lived by MANY these days. But there is no more punk COMMUNITY. Because punks started judging everyone else they same way they had been judged. And THEY decided that YOU weren't punk, they didn't care what you liked, they looked, and said "You aren't punk, go away poser."

And this is basically just a continuation of that...wow this was longer than I thought it would be. I guess I don't like this community as much as I thought, haha.

You ALL have the right to HATE whatever you feel like hating. But people lose sight of the line between that, and flat out judging people they don't even KNOW.

Obviously, I was using PUNK as my main example, because these things are most notable there. But it doesn't only apply to the punks, and the punk community. It applies to just about EVERYONE. Jocks, Preps, Goths, almost any label you can think of.

So I say GO AHEAD. Hate all you want. Hate Avril, hate skateboarding, hate MTV... but DON'T JUDGE THE PEOPLE WHO MIGHT NOT HAPPEN TO HATE IT AS MUCH AS YOU.

Eh, it annoys me when someone dressed in punk or gothic clothing is automatically assumed to be a poser. You don't know them, and what does it matter to you if they happen to be a poser or not?

What does annoy me is crappy music, or at least my definition of it. This includes pop-punk bands who claim to rock so fucking hard.. but has a singer with a whiny, pipsqueek voice (for instance, Simple Plan). What happened to the anger and the energy? They have taken the style as well as the sound and made it more mainstream in order to capitalize on the profits.

God damn this is so right...I is = Sick of teh posuers~! I am not calling myself punk...t(o.Ot) big fuck you out to tehm idiots. Its a state of mind ( i dont care if im not making sense ) and if you listen to those damn "punk" bands (i consider them pop, like green day) that does not mean your punk. If you shop at hot topic you are not punk. If you think you are punk, you most likely are not. If you wear shirts saying you are punk/gothic, you are most defenaitly not and i will kick your ass.

Well, since this is an open community, I've got something to say.

I think people should just leave other people and their decisions alone. I don't think everyone here would like it if other people started criticizing their actions. Why don't you just let the "posers" so whatever the hell they want, it's none of your business anyways.

Talking about "posers" behind their back, and making fun of them because of certain things they do EASILY makes you worse than they are. Because then, you just become a snob, who thinks that other people are beneath you. And that's not right.

You're no better than the next person, whether or not you think they're a "poser" or whatever. WHy don't you just let them do their thing and you do yours.

And one last thing. All you're doing is judging people before you get to know them. That's just stupid, and I bet you'd HATE it if people did that to you.

ALright I'm done, and I know I'm going to have to take a lotta crap for this, so bring it on. Comment.

For those of you who have never heard of the band Cauterize, you should definately check them out. I'm LOVING their song Something Beautiful. They just came out with a CD, So Far From Real. I got it yesterday and haven't been able to stop listening to it! Anyways, before you get the CD, you can check them out by listening to them on this player. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

since this is the 'anti-poseur' community and i run the 'everyone's a poseur' web clique, i felt as though it was my internet duty to post here.

nobody was born with a mohawk. nobody was born 'punk' or any other label like that (i say punk because that is what is 'in'). people are liable to change. just because someone is dressing preppy one day and punk the next doesn't mean anything other than that they are a confused kid. there's nothing wrong with that. adolescence is about discovering yourself. maybe you know who you are, what you're doing with your life, or maybe you just think you do. i'll admit, i'm a confused 17 year old kid who doesn't know who she is or what she plans to do with herself. it's no big deal to me. i'll figure it all out someday. and so will all of these 'posers' you speak of.

what this all means is: 'trying to fit in' is what you do when you try to be yourself but you don't know who that is yet.

What do you guys think about this - it's in my highschool newspaper in the entertainment section:

Maryland's Wakefield
"We're too dumb to be rich and famous, record companies don't even want to claim us," claims popular pop-punk band Wakefield in the last track on their major-label debut. Well, I wouldn't blame the record companies for not claiming the Maryland based pop-punk quartet. Wakefield lead singer Ryan Escolopio's whiny voice worsens overplayed beats and shallow lyrics. In this age of pop-punk success, there is no shortage of bands like Wakefield who change their image and lifestyle to gain popularity among confused fans nationwide.
Wakefield was formed in St. Mary's County, Maryland, when school friends JD Tennyson and Ryan Escolopio were joined by Ryan's cousin Mike Schoolden and former Good Charlotte drummer Aaron Escolopio. The ground spent hours and hours in rehearsal and borrowed a lot of money, but their efforts paid off when they were signed to Arista Records and got to work with their dream producer, Matt Wallace. Wakefield soon moved to Los Angeles to record and live "the rock star lifestyle", and after a month, released 11 tracks of repetitive noise on their major-label debut, American Made.
American Made features lyrics about the highly intellectual topics of selling out and girls, following the pop-punk trend of penning trashy lyrics to appeal to a wider, and dumber, legion of former pop fans. Along with deep lyrics, Wakefield's debut is missing song variety, good harmony, and originality.
In my opinion, Wakefield is just another talentless band (such as Good Charlotte, The All American Rejects, and Simple Plan) riding the poser-fueled pop-punk wave to success. In conclusion, I give Wakefield 1 and a half stars, and if they're claiming to be "American made", then I'm moving to Canada.

im new to this community. i would say i am quite anti-poser, but one thing sort of irks me..

a lot of people say how rich kids are posers. i dont necessarily believe this. if you are born rich, then it is not necessarily your fault. but if you accept having everything handed to you in your life, and live off of daddy's charge card, and yet say how punk you are, yes i would say that is quite poser-ish. however, some people cant help that they are rich. it is how they act with it that really counts, to me anyways.

so there is this boy in my class who says he is quite punk, and hates posers, is a rebel, etc. but i dont think what anyone remembers is that about a year ago, he came to school suddenly one day with dyed black hair and wearing all black. hm. and his friend, lets call him joe, is quite preppy. so the boy, say jack, is trying to change joe into a punk. suddenly, overnight, joe comes to school in like studs, etc. poserish? you tell me. he is jack's friend. however jack says he is quite anti-poser. and calls people a poser if they have a conflicting opinion or taste in music to his. god i hate it.

sorry for the long rant.

i need to let off some steam about a particular girl who rides the bus with me. ultimately, i've never spoken to her. even though i disagree with judging someone so harshly before you've gotten to know them, i'm quite afraid this will have to be one of many exceptions on a growing list of Indirect Enemies.

her name is ashley, she sprang up from the swamp one day and latched like a siamese twin onto MTV like so many poseurs out there. the only reason that she's allowed to like preppy-whore music is because preppy-whore music isn't trying to be anything it isn't, and i respect that and little else about it. she liked the preppy-whore music, wore hip huggers and normal t-shirts and fit in. ONE DAY, without warning, she got on the bus made-up like a raccoon, wearing black nail polish, $75 nylon pants with the overwhelmingly gay little plastic tubes and chains hanging from them, and some god-awful good charlotte getup. every day, she has progressively gotten more "punked out" and i intend to fix her one day. i intend to knock some sense into her via my forceful voice and perhaps a couple kicks from a doc marten. i'd like to ask her what she thinks of herself. how would she describe herself, in one word? "punk," she'll say. PUNK MOTHERFUCKING ROCKER. give me a break.

We has this assembly in school, yesterday. It was about smoking, and I think, about.. peer pressure? I'd like to say, that for the record, adults have a really perverted ( No, not sick -- warped ) sense of what peer pressure really is. It's not Jimmy and Jane walking down the hallway, when Dick comes up and says, Hey, you wanna smoke? If you don't, nobody will like you. You'll be a social outcast for the rest of your fucking life. It's nothing at all like that. I don't even think peer pressure exists anymore, and if it does, well.. let the weak minded kids give into it. Darwin's survival of the fittest -- who cares if it's not fair?

Anti posers, basically. To tell the truth I dont particually care if someones fake. If you're so unhappy with who you are then go ahead pretend. But fake people who go on and on about how real they are and how fake others are? Please grow up. THINK OF THE CHILDREN

I'm not a "proper punk" and I'm not going to pretend to be. I listen to whatever I want and respect people who do. So no accusations please.
